Important Wake Forest Christmas Parade Info!!!
Tuesday, December 09, 2008
I hope that everyone is ready for the Wake Forest Christmas Parade. For those of you who are participating, please read this note carefully as it will contain instructions for drop-off and suggestions for parking.
The weather for Saturday is predicted to be Sunny with a high of 47 degrees. This will be cold, but not frigid. I would like for the boys to wear their "warm" clothing underneath their scout shirts. If the boys want to wear a warm hat (other than their scout hat) and gloves, that will be fine.
There is a PDF of the Parade Route in the Documents section. Please note that you SHOULD NOT use the HWY 98 Bypass to get to the parade. Also, the attachment gives directions for entering the "staging area." Only follow these directions if you want to drop your scout off and then park. If you want to park first, DO NOT go down South Franklin street. (There is more information below about drop off and parking.
* Parade "line up" begins at Noon. All of the boys need to be at the "line up" location by 12:45 pm, or they will risk missing the opportunity to march in the parade. I will be there by 12:15.
* There are two options for "unloading" participants. You can either drop them off in a "drop and go" area and then park, or you can park and walk to the "staging" area.
* If you want to use the "drop and go" option, follow these instructions:
Enter Wake Forest using Highway 98 / Wait Avenue. (DO NOT USE Highway 98 Bypass).
Turn South onto Franklin Street.
There will be parade officials between Elm and Holding to help direct participants.
* If you want to park, my friend suggests parking at (or near) the elementary school near the intersection of Sycamore Ave and S. Wingate Street. (Use Google Maps to find the location. The Sattelite view will show the school.) Once you park, proceed to the "Line Up" area on E. Holding Avenue, just East of S. Main street.
* When looking for our "Line Up" location, just say you are with the Pack 28 Cub Scouts. There are 3 packs that are marching together, so we will not be the only scouts. I plan to bring our Pack 28 flag to carry during the march.
* If possible, I still want our boys to be able to sing along the route. I have attached the lyrics for a few standard Christmas Carols. I think the boys will know these.
I'm looking forward to this parade. It should be fun! I hope that many parents / siblings will find a place along the parade route to cheer on the boys.
Regards,
Gary Vacek...
